lasagna, 2 ways

Convincing my grandparents to come over for Sunday lunch today was an epic event. I called yesterday to invite them and nonna gave me the usual "don't worry about it, you're busy and we have food at home." Then when I called back later (because my mom made me) nonna told me she would think about it and talk to my grandfather. When I called this morning to find out what they decided, my nonno didn't have his hearing aids in so I'm not even sure if he knew which granddaughter he was talking to. Either way, he said they weren't going to be coming over.

Fast-forward to noon today, I'm in the midst of chopping veggies when my mom says "okay, I'm going to pick up your grandparents." Apparently they changed their mind. They get here just as I am taking lunch out of the oven and my mom sets a big tray on the counter and says "don't ask, nonna made lasagna." So now we have this huge tray of pasta, meat, and cheese to serve along side the giant tray of fennel, salmon, and potatoes that I made. Oh, and did I mention that I made pie too? Good thing we like carbs.
