Seafood Sunday Lunch

It’s been a long time, my sincerest apologies. It’s not like I haven’t been eating lunch on Sundays, but just nothing worth sharing really. All that changed today though with the celebration of Mother’s Day and Big Mike’s 55th birthday. Rather than waste time telling about the preparation (or how my dad actually did something for once and grilled the veggies, or how Dave and I had a good laugh cleaning the fish, or how my mom convinced us to buy more fish than we needed) I’ll cut to the chase:

PRIMI
The best pepper soup you will ever have, with a drizzle of cream

SECONDI
Mussels steamed with parsley, chilli peppers, garlic, tomato sauce and white wine
Calamari cut accordion style and grilled with parsley, chilli peppers, garlic
Fried smelts (we couldn’t find small merluzzo) and fried calamari
Lemon wedges on the side
Grilled eggplant, zucchini, banana peppers, Portobello mushrooms
Salsa of diced tomatoes, cucumber, capers, anchovies, parsley, olive oil, balsamic vinegar
Fresh bread and focaccia
Pino Grigio white wine

DOLCE
Bicchierino of Pimm's (to help with digestion)
Espresso
Strawberries roasted with vanilla bean and Pimms, and served with crushed shortbread and vanilla ice cream

Oh, and I had the best night sleep ever with my new bed linens. After 20 years it was time for an update. I wish I had a “before” picture to show you just how bad the floral bedspread, matching curtains, purple walls, and green trim really were, but what’s the point of living in the past when I have a sexy new duvet?
