home made

After a wild day/afternoon/night on Saturday I opted for something a little more low key on Sunday - grocery shopping and lunch. I sat down with all my Jamie Oliver cookbooks spread out around me like little children around the librarian at storytime, and spent the morning reading and drooling. After careful debate, spaghetti alla trapanese won out; the almond-based pesto was too tempting to ignore. Not to brag, but when nonna asks for seconds, you know you've done something right. The fact that I used her homemade pasta was just a coincidence.

Spaghetti alla trapanese: homemade pesto (loads of fresh basil, garlic, olive oil, and ground almonds), Roma tomatoes, shaved pecorino, all served with nonna's homemade fettuccini
