installing updates: do not shut down

Okay, deep breath. I've put this off way too long and there is no reason why I should be avoiding it other than sheer laziness.

So much to share but we'll go with the easy one first: I have a new job!!!! Four weeks ago I became a public servant, a guardian of public interest. My office is downtown (naturally) and my new boss is a total 180 from the crazy train that derailed north of the 404. The people I work with are funny, easy going, supportive, patient and all around great peeps. Such a breath of fresh air you have no idea. Scratch that. If you've read some of my older posts, you have a fairly clear idea of just how miserable I was a few months back.

Next: I found a silver lining to that rain cloud that was hanging over my head. With all the changes that have gone down this year there were way too many lows and not enough highs to restore the balance. Still can't quite put my finger on what changed and when, but I haven't been this happy in a long time. I've been selfish a bit and taken more time for myself. That also means I distanced myself from some of my friends, but I've gotten closer with others that had long since been neglected.

Last but not least: there is one more big unveiling down the road. Rapunzel will finally be letting down her hair and chopping it all off for charity. I had donated it a few years back and then Claudia convinced me to grow it out again. She's tough to argue with and at this point I've got seriously long locks (and way too many hair gels, mousses, sprays, serums) so it's almost time for the big cut. The plan is to suffer through the summer and cut it in October, just in time for the big 3-0 celebration. I'm open to suggestions and willing to try anything. After all, it's just hair and it grows back.
