food, the way your mother used to make it

This is the first weekend in a long time that I don't have anything going on - no afternoon shopping, no late night drinks, no plans at all. So I slept in and had a quiet breakfast in an empty kitchen with my nonna, and proceeded to seek out the ultimate square and/or bar recipe (details in a future post). In the midst of searching through cookbooks, I remembered a recipe in an old issue of Kraft's "What's Cooking" and I spent the next hour or so sorting through issues dating back to the summer of 2002. In my epic hunt I came across magazines that my mother had kept over the years - some brilliantly useful, others more suited for kindling.

For your viewing and culinary pleasure, these 6 were my favourites:

(clockwise from top left):

1) Issue 14 of "Recipes Only magazine. $1.00 gets you: Nourishing, comforting cheese, A romantic dinner for two, Cook-ahead soups and main dishes

2) Entertaining & Recipes - special preview issues, May 1983

3) The Bacardi Party Book - recipes for drinks, snacks and hor d'oeuvres

4) Simply...Good cooking - 101 recipes to enjoy and share

5) Homemaker's magazine - great recipes to make in the microwave, May, 1987

6) Keen's and Coleman's, the Golden Touch
