it's not you, it's me

They say that breaking up is hard to do...not just a clever song lyric. I've been on both sides of it (professionally and personally) and it does not get easier. What makes it worse is when you really like the person but you just know, deep in your hearth, that it's time to move on.

I just told the World's Greatest Boss that I'm going to start looking for a new job and it was quite possibly the worst conversation to have to initiate. Not only do I love my job and the people I work with, but she has become a great friend and mentor over the years. Lucky for me she is the World's Greatest Boss and was totally understanding and supportive. Now I need to update the old resume and start writing cover letters...what have I gotten myself into?

Of course I kept it together! Only an emotionally unstable person would break down and cry in front of their boss. I waited until I left her office and was in the bathroom before having a good sob ;-)
