Now I don't claim to be an expert in the kitchen by any means, but I do know my way around a butcher block and my litte bro and I cooked up quite a storm as we listened to Radiohead. The kitchen smelled delicious and the table was bursting at the seams with fancy serving dishes; we even served up the fish on a giant fish shaped platter - very Martha Stewart, I know.
As much as we always have dinner together during the week, it sometimes seems like a chore or part of a routine where we just go through the motions. Today was different because "the kids" took care of everything (we even did the dishes and cleaned up). To quote my dad, "it was nice" to call everyone in and have all the food laid out on the table. And when we brought out the huge fish platter, it was the icing on the cake! What I enjoyed the most though was the actual preparation of the meal - picking recipes, buying groceries, cooking together. We split up the menu and went about our way washing herbs, scoring fish, cutting fruit, tasting as we went.
Even the most adament fast food connoisseur would have to agree that making and eating a meal from scrtach is satisfying to the soul and the belly. The best compliment is seeing someone grab a hunk of bread to soak up the goodness left behind from tomatoes, cheese and olive oil, then sneaking the bread around the plate to scoop up anything their fork couldn't snag.
Lunch is served every Sunday somewhere between 2:00 and 5:00. Buon appetite!
Oh and just in case you were wondering...
