Today my boss asked me for an update on all recruitment activities for the last 2 weeks. New hires, terminations and resignations, an updated list of all open jobs (for both the production and office area), and a daily breakdown of all the phone and in-person interviews I have done. Kind of puts your time into perspective when you have to account for it. Here's a little snippet of how I spent my last 14 days...
23 phone screens with candidates from agencies, 17 of them lead to in-person interviews. 4 one hour long Lead Hand interviews, followed by 2 separate 30 minute meetings with the Supervisor and Manager to discuss why they all sucked.
3 people got hired today alone (the 2 week total is around 12). There have been 4 terminations and 2 resignations. Coordinating everything took way too many emails to mention. I have 6 new paper cuts from filing all the associated paperwork.
I drank 5 espressos (1 with Baileys chocolate), 13 coffees, and went on 7 lunchtime walks. I had Hero Burger once, but never went out for drinks after work.
As of today, I have left 3 voicemails and sent 3 follow-up emails to the VP of IT and I still don’t know if they amazing guy I found with the world’s most specific technical knowledge is starting work tomorrow or Monday. In the last 3 days alone I made 15 visits to the production floor and miss-buttoned my smock 4 times in a row.
We started with something like 20 open jobs in production 2 weeks ago and that is down to 8 as of 6:35pm today. Of the 10 people I hired for a short-term project when I started in December, 8 are being kept on (1 went back to school, and 1 was a dud).
On several occasions, 6 different Managers/Supervisors/VPs have told me how impressed they are with my recruiting and that I have done a great job in finding good quality people. Only 3 of them made comments that should not be made in front of HR. 1 made me blush for all the wrong reasons.
It’s the weekend and I am going to spend it away from my laptop and reading a good book. See you Monday.
